A Good Pair of Royal Worcester Figures by James Hadley, Dated 1895

19th century
Description

A good pair of Royal Worcester figures by the famous James Hadley. Depicting two French Normandy fisherfolk, a boy and a girl. In good condition, no cracks, chips or excessive rubbing.

Hand decorated in pastel colours with gilded highlights. These models (1202) first went into public circulation in 1896, but these are date stamped 1895. Registered numbers 67079 and 67080.

James Hadley (1837-1903) was an English potter and artist and worked at the Worcester Royal Porcelain Company. Until 1895 his work was produced almost exclusively by Royal Worcester, he later set up his own factory. Described by John Sandon as 'probably the finest English modeller of all time'. Able to work in any form of style required, he is best known for his decorative figures, made in the 1870's and 1880's, when taste was shifting towards coloured models from the previous fashion for plain white (Parian Ware).

Height:    Tallest is 8 inches (20cm)

Priced at £450 for the pair.
