Pair Of Chelsea Porcelain Style Hans Sloane Type Plates

Status: This item has been sold
Sold by: William Morris Antiques

A pair of Chelsea style Porcelain ''Blind Earl'' pattern plates. Such plates were named ‘Hans Sloane’ plates and reflect Sir Hans Sloane’s enlightened interest in the classification of plants and his support for the Chelsea Physic Garden. Designs were taken from contemporary engravings by the likes of Georg Dionysius Ehret.

Later in the 19th century such wares were copied by continental porcelain factories such as Samson et Cie of Paris.

I believe the plates to be of continental manufacture.

Condition: one plate has sign s of a hairline crack and there is some scratching to the enamel decoration.
