Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

Faux bois, meaning fake wood in French, refers to the artistic technique of crafting objects out of pottery, concrete, or metal to imitate the appearance of natural wood and bark. Popularised in the 19th century, particularly during the Victorian era, this naturalistic style brought organic elements into conservatory and garden decor.

19th-century naturalistic jardinieres were typically manufactured using moulded terracotta, earthenware, or majolica glazing techniques. Artisans detailed or cast the pieces using textured moulds to replicate knots, bark texture, and branch stubs prior to firing and applying coloured glazes.

Authentic Victorian pieces feature detailed mouldings with natural variations, earthy glazes, and appropriate signs of age such as surface crazing or firing marks. Genuine items are typically heavy for their size and may bear impressed maker marks or registration numbers on the underside base.

A naturalistic jardiniere serves as a focal point in a sunlit conservatory, hallway, or living area when paired with foliage such as ferns or trailing ivy. Its organic texture complements botanical wallpapers, exposed brickwork, and timber furnishings.

To preserve antique glazed pottery, clean the surface gently using a soft cloth moistened with warm water and mild liquid detergent, avoiding abrasive chemical cleaners. Plastic liners are recommended inside the planter to protect the unglazed interior from moisture saturation and frost damage.
