Minton Porcelain Tray, Brougham Castle’, C. 1830.

Description

An exceptional and large Minton porcelain tray, c. 1830. The tray finely hand painted to the centre, with a titled scene of Brougham Castle, Westmorland. A herdsman tends his cows, before the ruined castle, with a water mill to the left, beneath a foreboding sky.

The broad border elaborately gilded with scrollwork, within the moulded and pierced rim, terminating in two stylised leaf handles.

Inscribed ‘Brougham Castle, Westmorland’ in puce to the reverse.

Length - 37 cm, 14 5/8”.

Height - 28 cm, 11”.

Condition - Excellent. No damage. No restoration.
