Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

During the late nineteenth century, Wedgwood produced series of decorative earthenware tiles, often designed by notable illustrators such as Helen J. A. Miles. Influenced by the Aesthetic Movement, these collections frequently depicted allegorical themes, including the months of the year, seasons, or nursery rhymes, formatted with detailed graphic borders.

Tiles from this period were composed of pressed earthenware bodies fired at high temperatures. The imagery was applied using transfer printing, a technique where copper-plate engravings transferred monochrome oxide inkssuch as sepia, cobalt blue, or greenonto the bisqueware before applying a clear protective glaze.

Authentic examples typically feature impressed maker marks on the reverse, such as WEDGWOOD or J. H. & W. alongside grid patterns or registration marks. In addition, genuine period tiles exhibit uniform surface crazing within the lead-based glaze and fine line weight in the engraved transfer print.

A standalone antique tile can be displayed on an plate stand upon a mantlepiece, bookshelf, or side table to serve as a focused accent piece. Alternatively, tiles can be custom-framed as wall art or incorporated into tiled fireplace surrounds and kitchen splashbacks.

Clean earthenware tiles using a soft cloth dampened with distilled water and a mild, neutral soap. Avoid soaking the tile or using abrasive pads, harsh chemical cleaners, and acid-based solutions, as moisture can enter fine crazing lines and cause glaze spalling.
