Superb Pair of Royal Worcester Figures

Description

A superb quality and very fine PAIR of ROYAL WORCESTER porcelain figures which depict Queen Elizabeth I and Sir Walter Raleigh, modelled by the famous James Hadley. First introduced in 1880, these figures are dated 1881 and display extraordinary detail and beautiful decoration. 6.5ins (16.5cms) tall. Priced for the PAIR.

***James Hadley (1837-1903) was a talented porcelain modeller who started with Kerr & Binns in 1850s. By 1870 he had become the principal modeller at Royal Worcester and in 1975 he set up his own studio in the City, later starting his own factory, which on his death was sold back to the company. He is today regarded as one of the most important modellers of the 19th century.
