For sale this magnificent pair of Japanese Arita Kakiemon palette enamel bowls dating to the late 17th early 18th century.  The pair are of good size, being approx. 21.5cm each in diameter and 7.2cm each high. Both are in original and unrestored condition. One bowl has one very small shallow outer rim flake and one non-related hairline to the wall of the bowl approx. 3.5cm long. The other bowl is in perfect condition. Both show some wear to the glaze and slight enamel loss to the outer wall of one bowl, but only slight.  It is extremely rare to find a matched pair of bowls of this pattern in this size, in this condition. Similar bowls and dishes with the same enamel pallet and outer scrolling foliage design can be found in various works including Japanese Export Porcelain, a catalogue of the collection of the Ashmolean Museum Oxford, by Oliver Impey.
