Chinese Iron Red and Gilt with Under Glaze Blue Peony and Chrysanthemum Bowl, Kangxi

Description

For sale, this very fine Chinese iron red and gilt with under glaze blue peony and chrysanthemum deep bowl, Kangxi. The bowl is finely decorated in almost Chinese taste with flowering peony and chrysanthemum heads on iron red gilt scrolling stems. The bowl has some burst glaze bubbles to the rim, some wear to the inside central medallion. There is one short inner foot rim hairline and shown in the pics with an almost invisible related glaze bruise to the outer foot rim again shown in the pics. The bowl measures 19.2cm in diameter in is 9.7cm deep and has a perfect ring. Kangxi period. Shop mark to foot with old collector’s label. For an almost identical example but a Japanese slightly later copy, see Japanese export porcelain by Oliver Impey item 329 on page 201.
