A Striking Yellow Ground Tea Kettle by Makuzu Kozan

Description

As part of our oriental collection we are delighted to offer this rare Japanese tea kettle by the highly coveted Makuzu Kozan studio , the vivid yellow ground is decorated with floral sprays in underglazed tones of lilac and blue, it is very unusual to find a tea kettle from this studio and particularly a Meiji period piece in yellow ground , the kettle is signed to the underside with a full six character seal that reads "MAKUZU GAMA KOZAN SEI" it is widely accepted that pieces with this full mark are from the late 19th century and are not to be confused with the later wares produced in the early 20th century by other artists in the Makuzu studio, a contempory looking piece that would suit homes of today but produced over one hundred and twenty yrs ago !!

The condition is superb with no damage or restorations

Length 6" 15.5 cm (inc spout)

Diameter 4.5" 12 cm
