Description

This is a set of ten delightful Chinese gouache paintings on pith paper in two frames, one frame depicting five females and the other five males. One frame has the Emperor to the centre and courtiers to left and right and the other has the Empress to the centre, with courtiers to each side. These are very well executed full length portraits, showing the costume in fine and beautiful detail. The female portraits have some minor staining to two of the portaits and a break in the paper on each. The male portraits have some minor staining to the central portrait and a break in the paper on another. Otherwise the portraits are in good condition with strong colours. They are mounted and set in neat black frames which measure 70 cms by 23 cms. The portaits themselves are each about 20 cms by 13 cms.
