Description

Dating from circa 1860, this RARE GRADUATED SET of THREE STAFFORDSHIRE TOBY JUGS all bear the title 'MERRY CHRISTMAS' in relief around the footrim.

They are holding woven pie dishes on top of which lays a RABBIT surrounded by green foliage. The brims of their hats are decorated with grapes and vine leaves, all suggesting a Festive time.

The TOBY JUGS all retain their original PLUMED HATS.

Medium: 8.5 inches (21.5 cm)

Small: 7.5 inches (19 cm)

Condition:

The SMALLEST TOBY JUG has minor glaze grazing to the highpoints and two, old, short hairlines in his HAT.

The MEDIUM-SIZED TOBY JUG has just minor wear to the paint.

The LARGEST TOBY JUG has three old, fine hairlines running down from the top rim.

There are no chips or restoration.

A jolly TRIO, full of colour, vitality and charm.
