Davenport Nankin Pattern Tea Service Dated 1866.

A Davenport pearlware china tea service with blue printed and overpainted floral design: 'Nankin'. Shaped rim. Made by William Davenport, Longport. Staffordshire Potteries. Impressed anchor mark with date code for 1866. Printed pattern name and Davenport with pseudo oriental seal mark. The undersides display the characteristic kiln stacking marks of this pottery: three sets of triple-pointed spur marks. This particular pattern is very reminiscent of a Mason's Ironstone design. It is known that Davenport bought some of Charles Mason's designs at that pottery's bankruptcy sale in March 1848. The service consists of six tea cups and saucers, six side plates, milk jug, sugar basin and two large sandwich plates.
