Rare Pair of Spode's Imperial Blue & White Transfer Printed Butter Pans Circa 1820

Description

This Rare Pair of Spode's Imperial Blue & White Transfer Printed Butter Pans date from circa 1820.

They stand approximately 3 inches (7.5 cm) high and have a maximum diameter of approximately 7.5 inches (19 cm).

The Butter Pans bear the printed mark 'Spode's Imperial' to the base in blue.

The unusual rolled edges have gadrooned decoration on the rim.

An alternative to their original use could be as Wine Coasters.

The gerneral condition is good. One Butter Pan has a small surface chip to the footrim (please see photograph). The other Butter Pan has an old star crack (not open and quite stable) in the base and an undeveloped chip to the footrim.
