Why Sellingantiques dated this piece to THE VICTORIAN ERA:
Relief-cast lettering to the side: standard mark of the Paisley foundry sanitary castings.
Exposed cast iron on the foot pads: natural dark oxidisation from age and handling.
Vitreous enamel finish: soft surface dulling consistent with prolonged domestic show.

This is an independent date report produced by Sellingantiques using its own proprietary system. The process uses the photographs shown on this page. The system is never told the date the dealer has declared. This report shows that the two dates corroborate.

This Victorian salesman's sample miniature bath is an industrial-style collector's piece produced by Doulton. The item consists of a cast iron body with a sage green enamel finish, featuring a roll top rim, a tapered shape, integral feet, and embossed 'DOULTON' lettering along the side. The piece shows minor signs of age with slight wear visible around the feet and surface. Measuring 6 cm high and 16 cm wide, the miniature object is compact enough for display on various surfaces. In a contemporary home, this decorative piece works well on a bathroom counter or a shelf in an industrial loft setting. The small scale makes it suitable as a display object or curio for collectors of sanitary ware and miniature samples. The cast iron construction and embossed lettering provide an authentic period aesthetic that complements traditional and eclectic interior schemes.

Salesman samples were scaled-down, fully detailed models produced by manufacturers in the late 19th and early 20th centuries to allow travelling commercial representatives to demonstrate products to prospective trade buyers.

These miniatures were typically crafted using the exact materials as their full-scale counterparts, including heavy cast iron finished with a vitreous enamel coating, glazed earthenware, or porcelain.

Original pieces feature crisp embossed or impressed manufacturer lettering, period-accurate proportions, appropriate physical wear consistent with age, and a substantial weight relative to their size.

These compact historical pieces function as decorative accents on surfaces, serving effectively as luxury soap dish containers, trinket trays, or standalone display objects on shelving.

Wipe surfaces gently using a soft cloth dampened with water and mild soap, avoiding abrasive chemical agents that may compromise the original enamel glaze. Ensure exposed metal undersides remain dry to prevent oxidisation.
