This Victorian majolica boar's head tureen and cover dates from 1880. Sculpted from glazed earthenware, it displays a palette of grey, purple, and white with a glossy finish. Notable details visible in the piece include zoomorphic moulding with textured fur across the head, a pink snout, a brown patch around the eye, and protruding white ceramic tusks that curve upwards. The object measures 27 cm high, 45 cm wide, and 26 cm deep. Placed upon a dining room sideboard top, the tureen serves as a striking decorative centrepiece with a Highland hunting lodge style. The ceramic item is suited for display in a traditional or eclectic interior setting, bringing sculptural interest and period character to a surface in a home.

A majolica boars head tureen is a naturalistic ceramic serving vessel shaped like a wild boar head, historically created for serving soups, stews, or game dishes at formal dining tables.

These tureens were sculpted from earthenware clay, press-moulded into detailed shapes, and finished with colourful lead or tin glazes fired at high temperatures to achieve a glossy sheen.

Authentic pieces often display impressed maker marks or registration numbers on the base, crisp relief moulding, fine glaze crazing, and hand-painted glaze applications.

Position the piece as a focal point on a dining sideboard, inside a glazed cabinet, or alongside dark timber features to accent traditional or eclectic spaces.

Dust regularly with a soft cloth and clean using warm water with mild soap when necessary, avoiding soaking or chemical cleaners that could degrade delicate glazed surfaces.
