Wedgwood portrait medallions originated in the late 18th century under Josiah Wedgwood, who produced relief portraits of royalty, political figures, and classical subjects. This tradition continued into the 20th century to mark significant national milestones, including royal jubilees and coronation anniversaries.

Jasperware is a matte, unglazed stoneware developed using coloured metallic oxides, most famously cobalt for pale blue tone. The contrasting white cameo portraits are crafted separately from fine white stoneware clay and applied by hand to the surface prior to firing.

Authentic pieces feature impressed maker marks such as WEDGWOOD alongside MADE IN ENGLAND on the reverse. Limited edition releases often include impressed date marks for 1977, edition numbers, and are presented in original satin-lined presentation boxes displaying official foil insignias.

These wall plaques can be incorporated into framed gallery wall compositions or displayed on acrylic easel stands within a bookshelf or mantelpiece arrangement. Grouping similar blue and white ceramics together creates an organized, curated aesthetic.

Unglazed stoneware should be dusted regularly with a soft, dry brush. Micro-abrasions or smudges on the white relief work can be carefully cleaned using warm water and mild liquid soap with a soft cloth, ensuring the piece is dried thoroughly away from direct heat.
