Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

An 18th-century porcelain chestnut basket is a specialised tabletop vessel featuring pierced or lattice decoration designed to serve roasted chestnuts while allowing steam to escape. Produced by prominent European and English manufactories like Derby and Chelsea, these decorative pieces formed part of elaborate dessert services.

Early Derby chestnut baskets were crafted from soft-paste porcelain, hand-moulded with intricate reticulated or lattice openings. The pieces were decorated with hand-applied relief flowers, leaves, and overglaze enamel pigments prior to firing.

Authentic 18th-century Derby porcelain often displays characteristic patch marks on the underside of the base from kiln pads, alongside a soft translucency in the paste. Hand-painted enamel details and relief floral modelling show precise hand-craftsmanship without modern moulding seams.

Place the porcelain basket as a focal point on a sideboard, mantelpiece, or dining table centre to add texture and historical interest. Its delicate lattice structure works effectively against plain, neutral backdrops or dark wood surfaces.

Clean soft-paste porcelain using a soft brush to remove dust from delicate applied flowers and lattice openings, avoiding immersion in water. Keep the piece away from direct sunlight and temperature fluctuations, and never use abrasive chemicals or ultrasonic cleaners.
