Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

Patented in 1813 by Charles James Mason, ironstone china was a durable vitreous earthenware created to emulate imported Chinese porcelain. Temple jars feature high shoulders and domed lids, frequently decorated with elaborate Chinoiserie or Imari pattern enamels.

These ceramics were crafted from dense earthenware combined with clay and flint, fired at elevated temperatures for strength. They were hand-decorated using transfer printing, polychrome enameling, and gold gilding, often featuring moulded handles and sculptured finials.

Authentic early 19th-century pieces usually bear impressed or printed base marks such as Masons Patent Ironstone China. They exhibit heavy weight, vibrant cobalt blue enamelling, precise hand-applied gilding, and visible stilt marks from the kiln.

Position a pair of temple jars symmetrically on a sideboard, entryway console, or fireplace mantelpiece to establish visual balance. Their rich Imari colour palette creates strong historical contrast when set against modern neutral walls.

Dust surfaces regularly using a dry microfibre cloth or soft brush to avoid abrading delicate gilded details. Avoid soaking the ceramics in water or using harsh chemical solvents, as moisture can penetrate glaze crazing and damage overglaze decoration.
