Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

Ginger jars were originally utilitarian storage vessels used in China during the Ming and Qing dynasties for spices, oils, and ginger. By the 18th and 19th centuries, highly decorated versions with vibrant enamels were produced specifically for export to European and American markets as luxury decorative items.

Traditional Chinese export jars are made from high-fired kaolin clay clay ceramic (porcelain) coated with glaze. They feature intricate hand-painted decoration using overglaze enamels, such as the famille rose or famille jaune palettes, fired in secondary low-temperature kilns.

Authentic 19th-century pieces usually exhibit hand-thrown irregularities, slight pitting in the glaze, and unglazed foot rims showing smooth kaolin clay. The enamel painting displays depth, precise brushwork, and characteristic oxidation marks on exposed ceramic edges.

A vibrant Chinese ginger jar serves as a focal accent on a sideboard top, mantelpiece, or styled within built-in bookshelves. Pairing it with contrasting modern textured surfaces or natural wood accents creates a sophisticated, curated look.

Clean enamelled porcelain using a soft, dry lint-free cloth or a lightly dampened microfibre cloth with warm water. Avoid harsh detergents, abrasive chemical cleaners, or submerging the vessel in water, as moisture can damage unglazed surfaces and delicate overglaze enamels.
