Early Collection of Chinese Porcelain

18th century
For Sale by Booths (Reserved for a buyer)
Description

A large section of early chinese porcelain .these were part of a large display ,in a cabinet in a museum in bournemouth up to the mid 60s when over half of the contents of the museum were sold

I have chosen the date 18th century in the listing, but believe these are from the late 17th century up to the 19th century

Also I have to choose a size value. I have just picked the large vase on the right obviously they are all different sizes and shapes far too many to list

The pair of balls shown have ormolu mounts and are of good size

Please note these have been photographed in two batches because there were too much to put in one photograph as a lot. 31 items

Archival Detail
Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

Chinese export porcelain refers to ceramic wares produced in China specifically for international markets, starting significantly during the Ming Dynasty and expanding through the Qing Dynasty. These ceramics were made in regions like Jingdezhen to supply European and American demand for durable, intricate porcelain.

These vessels are crafted from fine kaolin clay combined with petuntse (china stone) and painted with cobalt oxide paint before applying a clear glaze. The pieces are then fired at high temperatures exceeding 1,200 degrees Celsius to achieve a vitrified, non-porous finish.

Authentic pieces typically feature hand-painted variations in cobalt density, smooth unglazed foot rims revealing fine white clay, natural signs of age around the base, and period-appropriate reign marks or stylistic decoration.

Vessels can be styled collectively along mahogany sideboards, console tables, or mantelpieces to create visual impact through varying heights and shapes. They also function effectively as singular focal points on open shelving or within glass display cabinets.

Clean surfaces gently using warm water and a mild non-abrasive detergent applied with a soft microfibre cloth. Avoid immersion if pieces have historic repairs, and refrain from using harsh chemical cleansers or mechanical dishwashers.
