Unusual Bernard Moore Biscuit Barrel With Planished Copper Lid C1900

Unusual Bernard Moore Biscuit Barrel with Planished Copper Lid
A wonderful flambe glaze biscuit barrel by Bernard Moore. The flambe technique produces unique and unpredictable effects so every item is different. To the base is the Bernard Moore painted signature mark which is a little faint, and there is an impressed Mr Moore was well known for using blanks from a number of factories including Minton and decorating them with his glaze forms. It dates around 1910 and is a lovely example of this sought after ceramicists work. The beuatifully formed planished copper lid (heavy 214g) adds an almost Chinese feel to this rare example, which I have never seen before.
Bernard Moore was a British potter best known for his delicate use of colored glazes. The artist incorporated aesthetics inspired by Chinese ceramics, specifically the glazes used in pottery making during the Ming Dynasty. Born on January 13, 1850 in Longton, United Kingdom, Moore joined his father’s pottery business, Sam...uel Moore & Son, in 1865 and took over the company upon his father’s death in 1867. His works are in the collection of the Victoria and Albert Museum in London and the British Museum in London, among others. Moore died on April 3, 1935, at the age of 85 in Draycott-in-the-Moores, UK
