Staffordshire pottery figures were largely produced in the industrial potteries of North Staffordshire during the Victorian era, serving as affordable decorative ornaments for working and middle-class mantelpieces.

These figures were typically slip-cast or press-moulded from earthenware clay, then hand-painted under or over the glaze with mineral oxides and sometimes highlighted with gilt.

Authentic pieces generally display typical age-related crazing, minor kiln flaws, hand-painted brushwork with muted iron-based pigments, and a hollow base with a small vent hole.

Positioning the figure on a mantelpiece, bookshelf, or side table introduces a touch of historic character and texture, contrasting effectively with minimalist modern styling.

Clean gently with a dry or barely damp microfiber cloth to avoid damaging fragile aged glazes, and keep the object out of direct sunlight to prevent colour fading.
