Description

Printed in the Gazebo pattern, now identified as Wiseton Hall Nottinghamshire. Built in 1771, demolished in 1960.

Pettys and Co. Leeds were known for producing this Wiseton Hall pattern with the same passion fruit border, and this would seem to be a reasonable attribution.

The basket is in wonderful original condition with no chips or cracks.

This early 19th-century ceramic chestnut or fruit basket is decorated in a blue and white transfer printed Gazebo pattern depicting Wiseton Hall in Nottinghamshire, bordered with passion fruit motifs along both the interior rim and the pedestal foot. The oval vessel stands on a flared, pedestal base and features open pierced fretwork panels around the body, intertwined twisted rope-effect moulded bands, and small loop handles at either end. The shiny white glazed earthenware surface displays deep cobalt blue transfer printing throughout the interior and exterior borders. The basket measures 10 cm high, 24 cm wide, and 16 cm deep. Today, this piece serves well as a decorative table centrepiece in a dining room, placed on a sideboard to hold seasonal fruit, or displayed within a traditional kitchen setting on an open dresser. The classic blue and white palette integrates smoothly into both period and modern interior schemes, providing a functional vessel for everyday display or a collector's cabinet piece.
