Stunning Derby Porcelain Figure Vulcan Four Classical Seasons Winter C.1760

£525    $703    €601
A very fine and rare large Derby figure of Winter from The Four Classical Seasons variants after the series by Meissen modelled by Kaendler in c.1750. A suitably bleak scene; he stands on a scrolled base set against a small bocage, huddling up against the cold and sparsely covered with a fur trimmed shawl. A small brazier sits at his feet and companion putto stands on his other side chopping up a small pile of wood. Superb attention to detail, the quality of the modelling and decoration is exceptional. Unmarked, dating from c.1760.

It measures 25cm (9 3/4'') high, 13cm (5'') wide and 11cm (4 1/4'') deep. It weighs 990g.

Condition is excellent; the putto has lost his axe handle and his right index finger has been professionally restored. The tips of the branches to Vulcan''s right are missing the tips and there are a couple of very minor chips to the leaves of the small bocage at the back and the tips of a few of the flames in the brazier. No other damage, repair or restoration ...
