Wedgwood Lustre Pair of Three-handled Mugs by Daisy Makeig-jones.

A rare matched pair of Wedgwood lustre three-handled Loving Mugs, designed by Daisy Makeig-Jones circa 1915. The first mug matches Decoration Book pattern Z4827: Ruby Lustre exterior with butterflies and oriental motifs; Mother-of-Pearl Lustre interior with a butterfly. Base stamped Wedgwood with pattern number. The second mug has a green lustre exterior with a coiled gilt snake on one side and a dancing dragon on the reverse. Inside, on a green-toned Mother-of-Pearl Lustre, the central medallion shows the snake enclosing a small monkey. Base with factory stamp; pattern number worn with age. Both mugs feature three loop handles with a single gilt line and gilt rims. Among the most popular shapes used for Wedgwood lustre decoration were bowls and the three-handled Loving Mugs, and this pair illustrates Makeig-Jones’s imaginative use of color and fantastical imagery. It’s worth noting the unique shape of these handmade miniature cups, and one might assume their production was limited. Most likely, they were primarily intended for children, and acquiring such a marvelous little cup would have been a delightful gift. The mugs are exceptionally rare examples of Wedgwood Lustreware, distinguished not only by their excellent preservation but also by the unusual combination of decoration and color schemes, making them highly desirable trophy pieces for advanced collectors.
