Highly Decorative 1930s Frederick Rhead Charger For Royal Cauldon 37.5 Cm

Status: This item has been sold
Sold by: Lee Sherman Antiques

A delightful, vibrant charger, almost certainly by the direction of Frederick Rhead. Measuring 37.5 cm in diameter, a frilled black-rimmed dish, a little raw in places, encompasses a rich blue and yellow coloured border; this in turn surrounds a circular floral motif with raised detailing in places.

After leaving Wileman, Frederick continued to work within the pottery industry. In 1929 he started working for Cauldon Potteries as arts director. At this time Cauldon Potteries owned Royal Crown Derby, Royal Worcester and Ridgways (Bedford Works). It was at Ridgways where Frederick had his office. Whilst working for Cauldon’s, he was taken seriously ill and died in 1933. A great loss to the pottery world with such a fine pedigree.
