Fine Sampson Hancock Derby Porcelain Dessert Dish, Signed W.e. Mosley, C 1900

A charming example of early 20th-century English porcelain artistry, this navette-shaped dessert dish was masterfully painted by William Edwin Mosley (c.1878–1954), one of Derby’s most accomplished painters.

The finely detailed still life features ripe plums, grapes, roses, and playful butterflies, set against a pristine white ground and bordered with a gilt gadrooned rim. Signed "W.E.M." and marked to the reverse with the red crown over S H D for Sampson Hancock, Derby.

Dimensions: 27.5 cm × 20.5 cm.

Excellent condition. A refined and collectible piece from one of the most desirable Derby periods.

About the Artist

This exquisite dessert dish was hand-painted by William Edwin Mosley (c. 1878–1954), one of the most celebrated artists of the Sampson Hancock factory in Derby. Known for his refined still-life compositions and remarkable detail, Mosley specialised in fruit and floral subjects executed with vibrant colour and botanical accuracy. He often signed his finest works with the monogram W.E.M., as seen here. His pieces represent some of the most desirable examples of early 20th-century Derby porcelain.
