A tulipiere is a specialised vessel designed in the 17th and 18th centuries to hold individual floral stems or growing tulip bulbs. Originated in Europe and manufactured extensively as Chinese export porcelain, these multi-aperture vases allowed valuable blooms to be displayed individually to prevent overcrowding.

Traditional Chinese porcelain is crafted from kaolin clay and fired at high temperatures. The distinct blue ornamentation is applied by hand using cobalt oxide pigment onto the unglazed body before a clear glaze is applied and high-fired.

Authenticity is assessed by examining foot rims for firing marks, analyzing the depth and tone of the cobalt blue glaze, inspecting glaze contraction pinholes, and evaluating four or six-character reign marks painted on the base.

A tulipiere serves as a striking sculptural accent on a sideboard, mantelpiece, or dining table centrepiece. It pairs well with neutral background palettes, contemporary glass, or traditional dark wood furniture.
