Hen on nest tureens gained widespread popularity during the Victorian era, often utilised in country houses and farmhouses for serving eggs, sauces, or keeping baked goods warm at the dining table.

These pieces were typically crafted from earthenware or majolica, shaped through mould-pressing or slip-casting, and finished with hand-painted lead glazes featuring vibrant colours like reds, yellows, and greens.

Authentic pieces often exhibit fine crazing in the glaze, weight consistent with dense earthenware, hand-painted detailing with minor variations, and occasional base marks or registry numbers characteristic of period potteries.

Position the piece as a focal point on a kitchen dresser, mantelpiece, or sideboard to introduce a touch of rustic charm and traditional character to modern spaces.

Clean gently with a soft, dry cloth or dust with a feather duster. Avoid immersion in water or abrasive cleaning agents to protect the delicate antique glaze and prevent staining through existing craze lines.
