The Art Union of London (1837–1912) was an organisation which distributed works of art amongst its subscribers by lottery. The idea emerged in Switzerland at the beginning of the 19th century. It was introduced to England in the late 1830s on the recommendation of a House of Commons Select Committee on the Arts and Manufactures in the United Kingdom.
