Rare early Whieldon type pottery toy figure of a collared European brown bear decorated with bright enamels under a pearlware glaze, Staffordshire England, 1785-1800

These small bears with big feet would have been familiar to folk being brought into towns and villages to be shown dancing baiting and other popular entertainments.

Fine lightly potted body, typical Whieldon type tortoiseshell colours yellow, green and ocher.

Height 2,1/2" or 65mm, weight 61 grams.

Small rim chip to the base otherwise in excellent bright sound condition
