Description

This beautifully-shaped ANTIQUE BLUE & WHITE TRANSFER PRINTED TUREEN, STAND & COVER was made at the DON POTTERY (1790-1834) SWINTON Nr Rotherham, YORKSHIRE around 1820.

It is decorated in their NAMED ITALIAN VIEWS SERIES Pattern.

The TUREEN has a VIEW FROM THE AUGUSTINI on one side and BRUNDISIUM (now known as Brindisi) to the other. Hidden away, in an arched wall, is the name DON.

The STAND shows the GROTTO OF ST. ROSALIE near PALERMO.

The COVER is decorated with two unnamed scenes.

The borders have images of PUTTI, which was a popular motif of this Pottery.

Special attention is drawn to the wonderful LION MASK handles on the stand.

Condition: The overall condition is good, There are no repairs or restoration. There are a few, small, old surface chips to the edges which are shown in the photographs. There are also two or three old, short hairlines.

A stunning TUREEN which displays beautifully.
