This impressive and amusing life sized Pygmy goat with glass eyes was made in France circa 1920 by Tuilerie du Mesnil de Bavent, commonly referred to as Bavent; it is in wonderful used condition with expected craquelure to the glaze and minor nibbles. The primary business activity of Bavent was the production of roof tiles; however by the turn of the century the owner M Aime Jacquier appreciated the uniqueness of the more creative designs that came from his pottery, they were sturdy enough to withstand extreme weather and beautiful enough to be considered art.
