The gilt label reading “Cannabis Sativa James Epps & Co. London”.

Height 31cm

Notes: James Epps (1821-1907) came from a very prominent family of Homeopathic

physicians and pharmacists, who went on to found (in 1839) the largest cocoa business,

In 1879 the company claimed to be making five million pounds in weight of cocoa yearly.

James Epps & Co went on to acquire the troubled Taylor Brothers in 1908, and was itself

bought by Rowntree in 1925.
