Staffordshire Ornithological Dish, Common Crane, C. 1810.

19th century
Description

English pottery ornithological dish, ‘Common Crane’, c. 1820. Finely hand painted to the centre, with a study of a Crane, in a rural landscape, within a chocolate brown enamel rim to the well of the dish.

Having a moulded, pierced lattice work rim, edged in chocolate brown enamel.

All beneath a pearlware glaze.

The reverse with three groups of triangulated spurs, and titled ‘Common Crane’ in iron red script.

Height – 23.5 cm, 9 1/4”.

Width – 20 cm, 7 7/8”.
