This Victorian overmantle mirror from 1860 is made from wood, gesso, gold leaf, and glass with a bright gold finish. The arch-topped frame has an intricate central crested cartouche, foliate scrolls along the top and base, and beaded interior mouldings. Measuring 237 cm high by 190 cm wide and 10 cm deep, the large scale makes it well suited for positioning above the mantel in a traditional living space or drawing room. The mercury mirror glass remains clear and intact within the decorative gilded surround.
