A stunning 19th Century giltwood overmantel mirror of grand proportions and exceptional quality. The mirror glass plate of rectangular form with curved top corner returns with scrolling foliate detail is set within an intricately hand carved, moulded and fluted giltwood frame with beaded row detail throughout. Surmounted with an overhanging stepped pediment above panelled frieze with acanthus leaf, guilloche moulding and alternating raised panels with foliate and applied flowerhead paterae decorative motif detail. Raised over a pair of striking ring turned, fluted stylised ionic pilaster columns to each side with beautiful acanthus, scroll, egg and dart motifs. Supported on shaped and moulded platform base with ebonised detail flanked with a further fabulous arrangement of scrolling acanthus leaves foliate and applied flowerhead paterae to each side.
