A very rare 19th Century Country House finely hand carved giltwood overmantel mirror of exceptional quality, in lovely original condition and of massively grand proportions. The mirror glass plate of shaped, rectangular form is set within a gorgeous moulded and fluted giltwood frame with lambs tongue, spiral and beaded row detail throughout. Surmounted with an exquisite pierced centred crest composition of cabochon, ruffles, acanthus, swags of foliate, berries, delicate flowerheads and beaded detail, flanked with richly scrolling acanthus leaves and a pair of finials, stunningly carved in high relief. Raised over a stepped overhanging fluted pediment above frieze with decorative rows of leaves, guilloche motif detail and wreaths of foliate to the shaped and panelled top corner returns. A fabulous pair of stylised ring turned corinthian columns flank the sides featuring acanthus leaves, scrolls, beading and panels of anthemion and foliate motifs.
