Yeats Country Antiques has dated this Giltwood Overmantel Mirror to the 19th Century.
Surmounted with an exquisite pierced centred crest composition of cabochon, ruffles, acanthus, swags of foliate, berries, delicate flowerheads and beaded detail, flanked with richly scrolling acanthus leaves and a pair of finials, stunningly carved in high relief. Raised over a stepped overhanging fluted pediment above frieze with decorative rows of leaves, guilloche motif detail and wreaths of foliate to the shaped and panelled top corner returns. A fabulous pair of stylised ring turned corinthian columns flank the sides featuring acanthus leaves, scrolls, beading and panels of anthemion and foliate motifs. Supported on shaped platform base with ebonised detail and further beautiful arrangements of scrolling acanthus leaves and flowerheads to each side.
