Strictly Vetted Dealers

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.

Secure Transit

Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.

The Sustainable Choice

Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

This Victorian toilet mirror dates from 1850 and is made from mahogany with a warm brown colour and an original polish finish. The piece consists of a large pivoting oval glass plate supported by ornate carved scroll uprights, resting on a serpentine timber base fitted with three opening trinket drawers featuring small turned wooden pulls. The carved decoration includes foliate and scroll motifs flanking the mirror frame and framing the base supports. It measures 86.5 cm high, 101.5 cm wide, and 25.5 cm deep. In a modern interior, this item functions as a dressing table accessory or sits atop a sideboard, chest of drawers, or vanity unit in a bedroom or dressing room. The pivoting mirror allows for adjustable angles, while the base drawers provide practical storage for small personal items, jewellery, or trinkets. The traditional Victorian style integrates smoothly into period country house interiors as well as classic bedroom settings.

FAQs

A Victorian toilet mirror, also referred to as a dressing table or vanity mirror, is a freestanding tabletop mirror designed to sit atop a chest of drawers or dressing table to assist with daily grooming during the nineteenth century.

These pieces were predominantly constructed from solid and veneered polished hardwoods, most notably mahogany, walnut, or rosewood, paired with glass mirror plates and hand-carved decorative uprights.

Authentic nineteenth-century examples often display hand-cut joinery on the base, natural timber grain variations, hand-turned brass movement fittings, and age-appropriate surface patination across the wood and mirror glass.

Position the mirror on a contemporary sideboard, hallway console, or modern chest of drawers to introduce rich wood tones and historic craftsmanship into a contemporary living space.

Dust the mahogany frame regularly with a dry microfibre cloth and apply beeswax polish periodically along the wood grain, ensuring glass cleaner is sprayed onto a cloth rather than directly onto the timber.
