Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

A George III toilet mirror, also known as a dressing glass, is a small adjustable tabletop mirror designed during the 18th century to sit atop a dressing table or chest of drawers. These pieces typically feature an adjustable swivelling glass frame supported by uprights, often set upon a plinth base containing small drawers for grooming accessories.

Georgian toilet mirrors were predominantly crafted from dense hardwoods such as Cuban mahogany or walnut, occasionally featuring crossbanded veneers and stringing. The mirrors utilise hand-blown glass plate, while the small drawers feature hand-cut dovetail joints and original brass hardware or wood turnings.

Authentic period pieces display signs of hand-craftsmanship, including hand-sawn drawer linings, hand-cut dovetails, and original brassware with hand-chased details. Look for authentic foxing or silvering degradation on the glass, along with age-appropriate wear to the base and swivel thumbscrews or brass finials.

Place the mirror on top of a modern chest of drawers, console table, or vanity unit to create a contrast between traditional timber and contemporary finishes. The small base drawers offer functional storage for jewellery or small everyday items on an entryway console or bedroom sideboard.

Clean the timber frame regularly using a dry microfibre cloth and nourish the wood with a high-quality beeswax polish once or twice a year. Avoid harsh chemical cleaners on the antique mirror glass, and position the piece away from direct sunlight and heat sources to prevent timber warping or veneer lifting.
