This 19th-century Regency toilet mirror stands as a fine example of English country house furniture, made from mahogany with a warm brown flame mahogany veneer and an original mirror plate. The rectangular swivelling frame is supported by elegant curved upright arms that attach to a shaped platform base featuring a gadrooned border and small bun feet. Original brass hardware secures the pivoting glass plate, while the polished timber displays characteristic grain patterns and natural aging. Measuring 60 cm high, 77 cm wide, and 28 cm deep, the piece sits comfortably upon a dresser, chest of drawers, or sideboard top in a bedroom or dressing room.

Dust the wooden framework using a dry microfibre cloth, apply natural beeswax polish periodically to protect the timber, and clean the glass plate with minimal moisture to prevent silvering degradation.

Position the mirror on a contemporary sideboard, chest of drawers, or hallway console table to introduce historical woodwork texture and bounce light across the room.

Authentic period examples generally display hand-cut joinery, original brass tightening screws, minor foxing on the glass silvering, and wear on the underside of the wooden base consistent with age.

These mirrors were predominantly crafted from dense hardwoods such as mahogany, walnut, or rosewood, frequently incorporating flame veneers, turned brass adjustment fittings, and silvered glass plates.

A toilet mirror, also known as a dressing table mirror or swing mirror, is a freestanding tabletop mirror created during the 18th and 19th centuries designed for personal grooming.
