This early 19th-century Regency period wall mirror takes a circular form of bold scale and proportions. The construction employs giltwood, gesso, glass, and ebonised wood finished in gold and black, centred on a mercury-silvered convex mirror plate. A deeply moulded cavetto frame holds subtle carved acorn-leaf motif detail spaced along the outer edge, alongside delicate carved lambs-tongue moulded detail and an ebonised reeded slip. The original gilded surface displays a pale soft patina with minor rubbing, and the silvered plate shows minor age-related spotting. The verso is fitted with the original back-boards. The mirror measures 73 cm high, 73 cm wide, and 12 cm deep. It functions as a wall mirror suited for placement above the mantel in a reception room or hallway.

A Regency convex mirror is a circular wall mirror originating from the early 19th century, featuring a curved glass plate that reflects an entire room in a panoramic perspective, framed by a gilded wooden border.

These mirrors were typically crafted with carved timber frame bases coated in gesso, finished with water or oil gold leaf gilding, and fitted with an ebonised inner reeded slip around a curved glass plate.

Authentic period pieces display hand-carved wood beneath slight gesso cracking, water gilding showing red bole undertones, an ebonised reeded slip, and subtle distortion or foxing on the convex glass mirror plate.

Position the mirror above a mantelpiece, console table, or focal wall, allowing its curved glass to capture light and add visual dimension to contemporary architectural spaces.

Clean the gilt surface gently using a soft, dry feather duster, avoiding liquid cleaners or abrasive cloths that can strip the delicate gold leaf layer or moisture-sensitive gesso backing.
