Strictly Vetted Dealers

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.

Secure Transit

Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.

The Sustainable Choice

Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

These 19th Century French Napoleon III armchairs have a square back design, generous seats, rolled armrests, and low profiles. Beech and ebonised wood construct the framework, complemented by beige cotton upholstery and turned dark wood legs. Each piece stands 86 cm high, 77 cm wide, and 82 cm deep, with a seat depth of 52 cm and a seat height of 34 cm. They work very well in a huge number of interiors, offering classic seating for living rooms, studies, or reception spaces. The chairs come ready for reupholstery using ten metres of material total, allowing buyers to select custom fabrics from recommended companies or supply their own.

FAQs

Napoleon III armchairs date from the French Second Empire period between 1852 and 1870. They are recognised for their comfort, fully upholstered frames, turned wooden legs, and balanced proportions designed for conversation salons.

These armchairs typically feature solid hardwood internal frames, such as beech or oak, combined with traditional coil springs, horsehair padding, and turned walnut or ebonised wood legs.

Authentic pieces generally exhibit hand-stitched jute webbing, original horsehair stuffing, traditional mortise and tenon joinery, and natural wear or patination on the exposed timber legs.

A pair can be arranged opposite a contemporary sofa to form a balanced conversational seating area, or positioned flanking a fireplace to introduce historical character into a modern room scheme.

Vacuum upholstery gently using a soft brush attachment, keep timber legs out of direct sunlight to prevent drying, and periodically treat exposed wooden elements with natural beeswax polish.
