Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

This pair of antique French chairs dates from 1900. The seating is upholstered in cream fabric with a buttoned backrest, curved arms, and contrasting textured brown trim along the outer borders. The frames stand on slender black wooden legs with slightly tapered, turned profiles, and feature a row of decorative metal studs around the lower base. Each chair measures 76 cm high, 66 cm wide, and 71 cm deep, with a seat depth of 51 cm. These compact armchairs suit placement in a living room, bedroom, or dressing area as occasional seating. They integrate well into traditional or transitional home interiors, providing comfortable lounge seating while maintaining a compact footprint that accommodates smaller spaces easily.

Originating in 19th-century France during the Napoleon III period, the crapaud chair is a low-slung, fully upholstered tub armchair. The style is characterised by an integrated back and armrest curve, deep button-tufting, and short legs.

Traditional construction involved solid hardwood frames, often walnut or beech, fitted with hand-tied coil springs, natural jute webbing, and stuffing made from horsehair or coconut fibre prior to final fabric upholstery.

Authentic period examples feature hand-stitched padding, original iron tacks, hand-carved wood frames showing natural age, and traditional sprung seats rather than modern foam filling.

Pairing deconstructed calico armchairs alongside clean-lined contemporary sofas creates a textured contrast, allowing the structural outline and historical craftsmanship to stand out.

Keep unfinished upholstery away from direct sunlight and damp conditions, brush gently with a soft bristle brush to remove dust, and consult a specialist upholstery restorer for stain removal.
