Thames Valley Windsor chairs originated in the rural workshops of southern England during the 18th and 19th centuries, utilising local timbers like yew, elm, and ash to construct sturdy, comfortable seating with distinctive spindle-backed frames.

Authentic chairs from this period typically combined multiple native woods, featuring a solid elm or fruitwood saddle seat, yew or ash for the bentwood bow and spindles, and beech or elm for the turned undercarriage.

Key indicators of authenticity include traditional joinery techniques such as wedged through-tenns, hand-carved saddle seats with natural wear patination, and variations in grain and colour consistent with age-oxidised native timbers.

This piece works effectively as a characterful accent seat in a living room or study, contrasting clean modern lines with organic warmth and rich historical texture.

Preserve the finish by keeping the timber away from direct heat sources and sunlight, feeding the wood periodically with traditional beeswax to maintain moisture and prevent splitting.
