Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

This 19th-century English Country Windsor armchair displays a warm brown timber finish across its elm, yew, and beech construction. The hoop back contains vertical turned spindles flanking a central pierced splat, while the broad, curved arms rest upon turned supports above a contoured saddle seat. Below, the piece stands on turned legs connected by an H-stretcher. It measures 117 cm in height, 69 cm in width, and 53 cm in depth. In a modern interior, this rustic armchair serves as a functional seating option for a study, living room, or hallway. The traditional craftsmanship brings character to a country-style setting while providing an ergonomic seat for daily use.

A Windsor armchair is characterised by a solid wooden seat into which the chair legs, back spindles, and arm supports are round-tenoned, rather than having the back legs extend continuously to form the back frame.

Craftspeople frequently combined multiple regional hardwoods, using elm for the solid saddle seat due to its cross-grained resistance to splitting, alongside bent yew or ash for the steam-bent hoops, and beech for the turned spindles and legs.

Look for wedge-tenon construction visible through the seat timber, hand-shaped saddle seats displaying adze marks, natural wear patterns on the stretchers and armrests, and slight shrinkage irregularities in turned elements due to age.

Position the chair as a singular accent piece alongside clean-lined modern furniture, integrate it into a reading corner with a textured throw, or use it as a statement carver chair at the head of a dining table.

Keep the chair away from direct heat sources to prevent timber shrinkage, clean surfaces with a soft dry cloth, and periodically apply a high-quality clear beeswax polish to protect the original finish.
