A pair of nineteenth-century Windsor carver armchairs in the English Country style originate from Swedish maker Ibex around 1900. These chairs combine solid elm penny seats with beech frames finished in a warm brown timber colour, featuring visible grain patterns on the rounded seats, spindle backs with curved top rails, and turned supports on the arms and legs. Each armchair measures 97 cm high, 58 cm wide, and 56 cm deep, with seat heights of 45 cm. These armchairs suit placement around a dining table, in a study, or as occasional seating in a living room. The sturdy construction provides reliable everyday support, while the traditional turned components and saddle-shaped seats offer comfortable seating. The clean timber surfaces integrate smoothly into period or rustic interior schemes without requiring extra upholstery or hardware.

A Windsor chair is constructed using a solid wooden seat into which the chair legs, back spindles, and arm supports are directly anchored using wedged mortise and tenon joinery. Carver models specifically incorporate armrests, making them suitable for the heads of dining tables or standalone use.

Traditional English Windsor chairs commonly combine multiple native hardwoods, featuring elm for the carved seat due to its cross-grained strength, beech or ash for steam-bent spindles and rails, and yew or fruitwood for decorative elements.

Authentic period examples demonstrate signs of hand-tooling, such as adze marks on the underside of seats, uneven spindle turnings, natural wear to lower stretchers from foot placement, and visible wedged tenons passing entirely through the seat structure.

These timber chairs serve as grounding elements when paired with contemporary dining tables, placed individually at reading desks, or positioned in entryways to add warm wood tones and sculptural silhouetting to neutral minimalist spaces.

Maintain timber finishes by dusting regularly with a dry microfibre cloth and applying a high-grade beeswax polish once or twice annually. Keep furniture away from direct heat sources and maintain steady humidity to prevent wood shrinkage or joint loosening.
