This 19th-century high-back Windsor armchair displays traditional English country style in warm brown oak, elm and yew. The hooped back encloses tapered vertical spindles alongside a central pierced and shaped splat, while broad arms sweep to rounded handholds above ring-turned outward-splayed supports. The well-figured, generous saddle seat stands on four ring-turned, slightly tapering legs joined by a tapered double stretcher. Suitable for everyday seating in a living room, study or country kitchen, this rustic farmhouse armchair measures 116 cm in height, 69 cm in width and 71 cm in depth. The timber exhibits natural grain patterns and a rich polished finish with visible signs of age and wear across the wooden surfaces.

A Windsor chair is a form of wooden seating where the back spindles and legs are joined directly into socket holes bored into a solid timber seat, rather than continuing as continuous frame posts.

British Windsor chairs were commonly built using a combination of regional hardwoods, featuring elm for the shaped seat, ash or yew wood for the steam-bent hoop back, and beech or oak for turned legs and spindles.

Authentic period examples exhibit hand-carved seat contouring, wedged tenon joints visible through the seat timber, turned legs with subtle irregularities from hand-lathe work, and natural surface wear on the armrests.

A high-back Windsor armchair functions as a structural accent piece alongside neutral upholstered furniture, placed in a reading nook, or positioned near a hearth in modern country and transitional homes.

Apply a high-grade beeswax polish annually to nourish the timber, maintain stable indoor humidity levels to prevent joint movement, and dust regularly using a dry, soft cloth.
