Yew And Elm Windsor Chair

£585    $793    €689
Nineteenth century Windsor armchair, yew with elm seat. North Nottinghamshire. The style and construction is typical of chairs produced in Rockley and Gamston between 1820-1850. In particular the underarm supports are similar to those on stamped examples by John Whitworth of Gamston. (See The English Regional Chair, Bernard Cotton PP183 - 187). Yew wood was always used (instead of ash or other woods) for those chairs deemed ''Best Chairs'' in their sales literature. In very good solid condition. Circa 1840
